I made some elderberry mead (flavored with elderberries and elder flowers). Do you think that would work also?

I don't know about mead...

Just wanted to mention, though, that we've found a way to make taking our tincture absolutely painless.

There are three of us who take it each day and it's really gross tasting. Even in OJ, while not awful, it was still noticeable.

However, a teaspoon of tincture in a cup of raspberry crystal light (or probably anything raspberry flavored) is completely flavorless.

Probably the reason that the sambucol people disguised their syrup with raspberry flavoring...it's a great flavor match.

A study recently conducted reinforces the info that we're being told. Elderberry extract might work as well as--or better than--Tamiflu or Relenza!

Which is really good news since they're holding back on giving Tamiflu to anyone except the severe cases (my daughter was just diagnosed and when she asked about tamiflu, they told her, literally, "I don't know what to tell you. You're on your own. Take over the counter stuff to make yourself feel better.")

Elderberry fruit extract may help fight H1N1 flu

"...A new in vitro study in the July 2009 issue of Photochemistry
suggests that certain elderberry flavonoids may be more effective than
Tamiflu and Amantadine in treating H1N1 flu.

B Roschek and colleagues from HerbalScience Group LLC in Florida
tested an elderberry fruit (Sambucus nigra L.) extract in vitro and
found the preparation inhibited human Influenza A (H1N1) infection
with the half maximal inhibitory concentration (IC50) at 252
micrograms per mL.

Flavonoids from the elderberry extract were found to bind to directly
to H1N1 virions and block the ability of the virus to infect host
cells..."

Just an FYI I ordered elderberries on Sept 30th from herbalcom and haven't recieved them yet. The order conformation said it would be five days or less. I put a call in today and got an answering machine. I'll keep you posted.

uh-oh...did they charge your card? If not, there are probably other resources you could look into. I bought some from sharpweblabs a few months ago.

Maybe it's just so high demand and everyone's out of the stuff. There's a guy on timebomb2000 that sells tincture and whatnot; his name is Tom something--maybe he has the dried berries.

Side note, hmmm... maybe a good idea to get people for Christmas this year...a flu care package! :-)

I went running down the road this morning. I noticed that the elderberries are ripe if not past prime. Monday I think i will go into Memphis and buy a gal. of cheap vodka. Then come home and pick a bucket full of elderberries. Shouldn't take long to get things mixed up. Be nice to know I have something on hand. Az
