This is not an answer to Joe's question. Its just another question framed within it.
I finally watched the movie "Defiance." I also read the book.
This is... something only you can answer for yourself. Its a question for your conscience.
The movie was timely....
Because it provides an example of something that actually occured in history.
Here, on this forum, the question is... "You have 30 seconds..."
In the movie, based on a real life scenario from World War II, no one was turned away.
The Bielskis were capable of taking care of themselves. They had woods skills. They could've gone it alone.
Being just them, they could have avoided detection and raids.
However, they turned away no one who needed their help. The young, the old, the sick, the unskilled.
They didn't seek fame or glory. Just like Schindler, they just worked a miracle.
They did put everyone to work. They did try to match skills with tasks. They did train others.
Trained them to procure food, build shelters, nurse the sick and injured, fight back.
It must have been hard, but they turned away no one. They even went forward to rescue.
They shared what little they had, what little they could procure.
They also made a conscious effort not to become animals, to fall to the level of their enemies.
All I ask is that you ponder their example... and consider this...
Is it possible, as you prep, that you are now in the position of the Bielski brothers?
Think about it...
Peace be upon you, brothers and sisters.

The purpose of this thread was to encourage each Viking to take an introspective look - to do some self evaluation - some personal measuring and assess what one's strengths are weaknesses are.

And THEN (because there is always more) to improve on one's weaknesses.

It is painful.
It is uncomfortable.
It is scary to think we could "come up short".

It is not so easy to take steps for self improvement.

This thread has run it's course and I am locking it.

Fusilier's last post is worth of discussion and I am copying his words to the Defiance thread for further thought and discussion.
